The basics
What is Otterly?
Otterly is a serious dating app for singles who date to marry. Instead of swiping through hundreds of faces, you send a small number of thoughtful requests with a note to people whose profiles genuinely resonate. It is built for adults who want a life partner — especially singles over 30 and the single-again: divorced, separated, awaiting divorce or widowed.
Is Otterly a dating app or a matrimony site?
Neither, and deliberately so. Swipe apps optimise for attention; matrimony sites reduce you to caste, income and horoscope. Otterly sits in between: modern, private and self-directed like a dating app, with the clear marriage intent of a matrimony platform — minus the meddling. You choose, you talk, you decide.
Who is Otterly for?
Adults 18+ who are legally free to marry and genuinely want a long-term partner. Our community skews 30 and above, and a large share of members are starting again after a divorce, separation or the loss of a spouse. You can state your marital status openly — Never married, Separated, Awaiting divorce, Divorced or Widowed — and filter for it.
Is Otterly free?
Yes. Downloading, creating a profile, browsing, sending your daily requests and chatting with matches are free. An optional Premium subscription adds unlimited requests, advanced filters, higher visibility and more control. There are also one-time options such as a Day Pass and Pearls.
Profiles & verification
How does verification work?
You take a live selfie in the app making an “O” sign with your hand. Our system checks that a real face is present, then a human reviewer compares it with your profile photos. Verified members get a blue tick. The selfie is never shown on your profile.
What information is visible to other members?
Two letters of your name, your age, your photos, your prompts and the details you choose to share (marital status, kids, religion, belief, diet, height, education, career, hometown, languages, interests). Your full name, phone number, email and date of birth are never shown — so nobody can spam-call you. Location is shown as a distance, not an address.
What is the Smiling Selfie Booth?
A live, unfiltered selfie taken in the app. No catfish, no AI face. Only members who have added their own selfie can see yours, and it auto-deletes after six months.
Can I change my name, date of birth or phone number later?
No. Name, phone, email and date of birth are locked after account creation to prevent impersonation and age fraud. Everything else — photos, prompts, details, filters — can be edited any time.
Why is my profile not visible in Explore?
Profiles below a minimum completion level are hidden, as are paused, flagged or unreviewed accounts. Add photos and details, get verified, and check that your account has not been paused in Settings.
What does “30% more requests” mean on the details screen?
Members who fill in the “Important details” step — marital status, marriage timeline, religion, height, lifestyle — receive noticeably more requests, because those are the details people use to decide. The number is a guide from what we see across the community.
Can I hide my profile temporarily?
Yes. Pause from Settings. Your profile disappears from Explore, your matches are kept, and nobody is notified. Unpause whenever you like.
Requests, matches & chat
Why can I only send a few requests a day?
Because limits create care. When requests are scarce, people read profiles and write real notes — and the person receiving them knows you chose them on purpose. Free members get a daily budget that resets at midnight; Premium removes the cap.
What is Blind Love?
One curated blind date a day. Photos stay hidden while you chat; if you both choose “match”, profiles are revealed and you continue as a normal match. If not, it quietly expires at midnight. It is our favourite antidote to judging a person by a thumbnail.
Do people see when I view their profile?
No. Otterly has no “who viewed you” feature. The only thing anyone sees is a request you deliberately send.
Can I see who I sent a request to?
Yes. Sent requests are listed in your Requests tab. Premium members can also edit the note or withdraw a request.
What happens if I decline a request?
Nothing visible. The other person is not notified and the profile is removed from your Explore. Declining is quiet by design.
Why do women get more daily requests than men?
Because the ratio of men to women on most dating platforms means women receive far more attention than they can respond to. Giving women a larger daily budget and men a smaller one balances the conversation and keeps inboxes humane.
Can I unmatch someone?
Yes, from the chat menu, with an optional reason (for example “They had casual intent” or “They asked for personal info too soon”). Unmatching deletes the chat for both sides.
What are Olly icebreaker games?
Fourteen two-player games you can start inside any chat — This or That, Would You Rather, Dealbreaker Dash, Taste Buds, Bucket List Bingo, Red Flag / Green Flag, Rapid Psych, Hot Takes, Compat Lite, Lie Detector, Travel Bucket, Guess the Name, Vedic Kundali and Zodiac Match. They exist so the first message never has to be “hey”.
Safety & privacy
Is my data safe and private?
Your full name, phone, email and date of birth are private and never shown — so nobody can spam-call you. Only the first two letters of your name and your age are visible. Screenshots are disabled inside the app, you can blur your photos, and you can block your phone contacts so people you know never see you. We never sell personal data. Read our privacy policy.
Are screenshots really blocked?
Inside the app on the Explore screen, yes. A second camera can photograph any screen, so treat this as strong protection rather than absolute. Combine with photo blur for extra privacy.
How do I block someone I know from seeing me?
Settings → Contact blocking. Otterly matches your phone contacts against members and hides you from each other — an ex, a coworker, anyone. You can block up to 50 numbers.
How do I report someone?
Tap the flag icon on any profile or chat, pick a reason, submit. Reports are anonymous and reviewed by our team. See the Safety centre for outcomes.
Does Otterly sell my data?
No. Never. Premium funds the platform. Read the privacy policy.
How do I delete my account?
Settings → Delete account. Your profile, photos, chats and connections are deleted; most data is erased or anonymised within 30 days, except records we must keep for legal or financial reasons. If you found your person, tell us first — we would love to know.
Account & availability
Which countries is Otterly available in?
Otterly is available worldwide on the App Store and Google Play. Discovery is location-based, so you see people near you first and can widen your radius. Our largest communities are in India and among the Indian diaspora, and the app is in English.
Which languages does the app support?
The app is in English. Members list the languages they speak on their profile and can filter by them, so Hindi, Tamil, Bengali, Marathi, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Gujarati, Punjabi and many more communities find each other easily.
I can’t receive my OTP.
Check that your number is entered with the correct country code, wait sixty seconds, and try again. If you signed up with Google or Apple, use that button instead. Still stuck? Email GetOtterly@gmail.com.
Is there an Otterly website version?
Not yet. Otterly is app-only (iOS and Android) because features like screenshot protection and live selfie verification need a phone. This website is for learning about Otterly and reading our guides.
Is Otterly LGBTQ+ friendly?
Otterly offers Male, Female and Others as gender options with matching interest settings, and our guidelines ban homophobic behaviour outright. Everyone who dates to marry is welcome.
What happens if I find my partner on Otterly?
First: congratulations. Second: delete the app — that is the whole point. If you are a Premium member and you marry someone you met on Otterly, we refund 100% of your Premium spend. Write to us at GetOtterly@gmail.com.
